Stage 1A: UK Completion - January 31st, 2012
Stage 1B: UK Competition Finals, EcoBuild - March 21st, 2012
Stage 1 of the competition is split into two parts. The first is the open UK competition, the deadline for which is January 31st, 2012. Of all the projects submitted, between 6 and 8 entries will be selected as UK finalists to attend EcoBuild 2012.
This first stage of the competition (both 1A and 1B) calls for the design of a sustainable community according to ISOVER Multi-Comfort-House definition with Passivhaus components. For both Stage 1A and Stage 1B , the designs are expected to demonstrate Multi-Comfort House and Passivhaus thinking and design principles at a strategic level.
This may include considerations of building orientation, functional organisation, super-insulation, systems (such as MVHR), renewable energy sources, reduction of thermal bridges, facade transparency and opacity, technical facade details and U-values, passive and active solar gains, solar shading and more. However, this stage does not require student teams to establish Passive House Standard by PHPP and consideration of technical parameters for sound insulation (which will form part of stage 2 of the competition).
